The donkeys are transported to the beach by horsebox each morning. On arrival at their picket fenced enclosure, they are groomed and tacked up i.e. bridles, reins and saddles are fitted. They are then ready to face their public.
They normally start work at 11 o'clock and finish at 5.30 as long as the weather stays fine.
To protect them from the weather they have parasols and a gazebo for shade and to protect them from sudden downpours. They also have rain mackintoshes for lighter showers.
Parasols, enclosure and Danni on Weymouth beach.
The donkeys stop for a one hour lunch break.
Usually for their lunch they enjoy a nice bag of hay and plenty of fresh water from a nearby tap.
However, they frequently receive treats from visiting friends such as The Carrot Lady, Pauline, who regularly visits with gifts of carrots, and The Apple Lady, Terry, who brings them delicious apples. They have also been known to enjoy the occasional ice cream!!
